The Block Arcade

Melbourne’s principal shopping arcade built in 1891. The grandest arcade of them all, featuring huge ceiling murals and intricate mosaic floors. Walking up and down this section of Collins Street in the late afternoon or on Saturday morning was a favourite pastime between 1870 and 1918. The Block is famous for its arcades, modelled on those of Paris. 280-286 Collins Street, Runs between Collins Street and Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Stop for High Tea at the famous tea house or have a sample one of Haigh's delicious chocolates. The arcade opens up to a row of gorgeous small cafes and restaurants. Perfect when it is time for a coffee. Continue through this arcade and over the road to join the Royal Arcade.

DeGraves Street

Also known as DeGraves Lane. This Lane is largely, amazing little eateries with umbrellas down the centre of the street covering tables and chairs for diners of the cafes opposite. It is a vibrant little strip dotted with interesting small boutiques and if you take a slight dog leg right as you head towards Bourke St. you can follow another lane all the way to Collins St.

The Royale Arcade

If you enter the Royal Arcade on the hour you will be greeted by the chiming of the Gaunt's Clock which is flanked by two mythical creatures, Gog and Mc Gog. This marvellous old arcade has been displaying its Renaissance Revival style since 1870. It has many beautiful boutique and gift stores and one of the best Chocolate Cafes in Melbourne. So stop for a sample tray and hot chocolate at Koko Black's, you will not be disappointed.

Hardware Lane

A very unique little restaurant strip great for lunches or a romantic dinner. Jazz bands often play in the evening on friday and saturday night.
